Robber escapes from police custody

Odisha Channel Bureau Jajpur, Jan 5: A 27-year-old man who was arrested and lodged in hazat at the Kuakhia police station on Sunday afternoon on charges of robberies and snatchings has fled from the police station.The accused, identified as Raju Biswal of Bantara village was arrested from Jajpur Road area and was brought to the Kuakhia police station on Sunday afternoon.The accused on pretext of going to toilet escaped from the police station on Sunday night, police said today.The accused was wanted in a series of cases relating to robbery and snatching on National Highway no-5 in Kuakhia and Panikoili police stations areas in the district, said a police official.An FIR has been lodged in this connection and the role of those policemen who was in charge of the accused is also being probed, they added.Notably, as many as nine snatching cases on National Highway no-5 were reported in both Kuakhia and Panikoili police stations areas in last two months.
